Occidental Negros is the Center of Steam Trains & Locomotive tours.... truly, the "Steam Paradise" this part
of the globe!

EDWIN V. GATIA has been arranging, organizing, and undertaking "steam locomotive
tours" around the Province of Occidental Negros since the late 1970s, when these vintage steam machines were still quite actively
involved in the sugar industry of the Province.
He has also written and authored several feature articles on the subject, including one entitled
"Iron Dragons of Sugar Island", which was published in the AsiaMagazine in
August 1982.

Twice each year, and every year thereafter for the last 30 years (since the
summer of 1979), majority of the same people from Japan had come and visited the Province for its wealth in terms of
the number of Steam engines there are. This is the group of Japanese steam enthusiasts who come to the Philippines under
the leadership of Mr. Seiya Sugawara, President of NEWS Travel Service-Tokyo.
Apparently, the steam locomotives were effectively promoted in Japan by professional photo-journalist
YOJI YOKOI from Tokyo, Japan, who had several photographs of these vintage trains published in a nationally-circulated
Travel Magazine.
And each time they come, Edwin Gatia always makes sure that "all systems are go"- that is,
all prior arrangements with local travel suppliers have been confirmed and ready for implementation...
